and another....

Change seems to be the theme of my year. And yesterday's news was no exception. After meeting with my heart Dr. we came to three conclusions:

1. My heart EF rate will never be what it was
2. We need to get me out and about again (for personal sanity reasons)
3. Diet will now play just as big of role as medication does

diet, yes, I used the "d" word, the forbidden word in our house. Those who know me, know that I Do. not. diet. I love food, it was the one stress relief that worked, and now... GONE.

I feel very overwhelmed about the three new things I have learned, and in light of trying to keep my positive attitude I just keep saying, "The only thing I won't miss is my waist line!"

So what can I eat? I am asking that same question, I will meet with my Dr. again along with a dietitian next week, but this is what I do know:

I CAN NOT eat anything that is an animal bi-product. Like, eggs, milk, cheese, meat. No grains. Like, Bread, pasta, rice *all my fav's by the way*

I CAN eat dark leafy greens, for calcium. Lots of nuts, but that will be kinda tricky with Riley's highly allergic nature. I will just have to wash my hands and brush my teeth ALL the time.

Fresh fruits, mainly the ones with seeds. staying away from Bananas. All fresh vegetables.

and the kicker....

I CAN'T COOK ANY OF IT! No cooking.

What? you might ask.... EXACTLY. Now you know why I went to be crying last night. So any suggestions or support would be greatly appreciated.

I am off to go have fruit and salsa for breakfast. yum. (sarcasm intended!)

to leave this on a positive note.... yesterday Riley asked me to keep his toys away from "swiper" I asked who "swiper" was, he said Maddy! (Swipper is the fox that takes things on the show Dora) Put a smile on my face for the whole day.

I love my little family, especially the three littlest ones!

Your kids will get you through your change. Hang in there.

So essentially you must convert to the raw food movement? I'll keep my eyes open for any recipes that might be of use.

SO ANNOYING! I'm sorry. Well, there are TONS of great fruits and vegetables out there. I love this season because of the clementines, apples and grapefruit! YUM! Good luck.

Oh, Barb. I am soooo sorry. Soooo sorry. I'll be here while you grieve. I'm 100% serious. I had to with my food changes. I have an aunt and uncle who eat raw, nearly all the time. I will ask them what fun treats and things they eat. On the bright side, you will be a valuable resource for someone else who has to go through this. I know it doesn't take away the sadness now, but someday it will help. Love you!

Hey Barb...just wanted to let you know I was thinking about you. My neighbors growing up were actually raw foodist...I guess that's what you would call them. They have a website and a cookbook. I thought maybe you would be interested and maybe it would help. Their website is toprawmen.net You're in my prayers. You are a strong woman!!

Dave's stepmom is a raw foodist; she even teaches a raw food "cooking" class at her grocery store. I can give you her e-mail if you're interested. She's always trying to convert us to raw foods, and I'm sure she would have lots of recipes and suggestions for you. There are several kitchen appliances that make raw food cooking more practical and even fun. Dave's stepmom made us some raw spaghetti (raw tomato sauce and raw zuchinni "noodles"), and I wouldn't have guessed it was completely raw except that I watched her make it. Think of the raw foods as a new adventure; you're so creative, you will definately rise to the challenge.

wow - what a change. Change is hard, but eventually it will all become second nature. You CAN DO IT!

I did the same thing after the car accident. I was pretty messed up and met with a dietician too...guess what you described for your choice of foods???? THE RAW FOOD DIET! I have two cook books! I love the majority of the recipes, but wont lie...i have some of the "bad" foods. SO....since you are starting this journey...stay strict with it. It will change so much! LOVE YOU and MISS YOU! Google Raw food diet, or recipes. I also am a member of a newsletter with RAW food.

P.S. cookbook is: the RAW 50 by Carol Alt. and also granola recipes on RAW food are really good. You can leave out the nuts for riley and use the raw, locally grown honey or agave to mix with it. YUM!
